Chiropody treatment includes cutting of the nails, the removal of in-grown nails, callouses and corns, treating foot ailments such as plantar warts (verrucae), athlete’s foot, sweaty feet, foot odour and dry or cracked heels. These treatments are for people of all ages and diabetics may require specialist foot care.

Some of the most common problems we successfully treat include:

• Corns and callouses
• Verrucae (warts)

Podiatry

Podiatrists are healthcare professionals who have successfully completed a minimum of 3 years specific training to diagnose and treat abnormal conditions of the feet and lower limbs. They can also treat and alleviate day-to-day foot problems including toenail problems, such as thickened toenails, fungal nail infections, ingrowing toenails and verrucas.

General consultations for advice can be undertaken regarding foot related problems.

A podiatrist trained in bio-mechanics, (the study of posture and walking), is able to provide gait analysis to check for flat foot and other problems. The person receiving treatment may also be referred for prescription orthotics (in-sole foot support). Foot malfunctions can be a major cause of problems in the lower back, hips and knees. In podiatric treatments padding and strapping may be provided where deemed necessary.

Patients can also be referred to other Private Registered Practitioners for surgical treatment of bone and joint problems such as bunions and hammer toes.

Some of the most common problems we successfully treat include:

  • Foot, ankle and knee pain

  • Lower limb sports injuries

The initial podiatric consultation will involve a discussion with the patient relating to their symptoms and an examination. Where appropriate a temporary orthotic can be made and basic advice given.

If you have any of the above and would like a correct diagnosis and treatment, call to arrange an appointment:

Acupuncture (Ilford Practice)

Acupuncture is a collection of procedures involving skin penetration with needles to stimulate certain points on the body and has been practiced for thousands of years in the Far East. It is a classical component of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and has been defined as a complimentary health alternative. By stimulating specific acupuncture points, imbalances in the flow of energy, (Qi, pronounced Chi), can be corrected through channels known as meridians.

When the flow of Qi is impaired through the body an imbalance occurs resulting in illness and by inserting fine needles at various points on the meridian, the Qi can be redirected to where it is needed most, so the body’s balance can be restored and the illness resolved.

Acupuncture can be used as part of your physiotherapy, osteopathy or podiatry treatment. There is good evidence that acupuncture is an effective treatment for:

  • Chronic back pain

  • Dental pain

  • Pain and discomfort during gastrointestinal endoscopy

  • Headache

  • Nausea and vomiting after an operation

  • Pain and discomfort during oocyte retrieval (a procedure used during IVF)

  • Osteoarthritis of the knee
